Infrared Light Therapy

Similar to humans, both dogs and cats can suffer from arthritis, joint pain, and inflammation. Photobiomodulation (PBMT) can help with all of these ailments and more.

Infrared light falls just outside the visible spectrum, past the edge of what we as humans can see.

 FAQs on Infrared Light Therapy

  • Infrared Light therapy is safe and will not hurt your animal.

Laser therapy is effective in treating acute pain, chronic conditions, and post-operative pain.

  • Infrared light works by increasing Nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide is a short lived gas that is crucial to the health of your pets arteries. This powerful signaling molecule relaxes the arteries while helping to regulate blood pressure. The increase of Nitric Oxide also fights free radicals, and discourages platelets from clumping together in the blood vessels. Your pet will benefit from the Infrared light therapy almost immediately by enhancing blood flow in the treated vicinity, bringing oxygen, nutrients and most importantly- pain relief to any injured tissues.

  • No haircuts needed! Dogs and cats do not have to be shaved in the area of cold laser treatment Laser therapy is effective through the fur.

  • Kidney failure in cats and dogs. We use infrared light for ischemic kidney failure, not inflammatory kidney failure. Most older cats with kidney failure have the ischemic type.

Infrared light helps to open up blood circulation into the kidneys and wake up cells that are still living within the kidneys but have inadequate blood flow.

Incontinence in dogs –We use a combination of infrared therapy, herbs and acupressure therapy. Heat therapy is however a large part of our treatments especially in younger dogs. In Chinese medicine we consider incontinence in young female dogs to be cold that has gotten into the bladder during spay surgery. With acupuncture, herbs and infrared light therapy you are driving that cold out of the body. In the older dogs, incontinence is considered a deficiency of kidney yang or kidney fire. Infrared therapy over the kidney yang points can help to stoke this fire and help them to hold urine.

Infrared heat can help with arthritis support in older dogs and cats.

Infrared light therapy helps improve blood circulation, drives out cold and helps with pain control. Infrared heat can also be used over the kidney points to improve energy.

Kona

Light therapy was used on Kona. In a series of unfortunate events, Kona got loose and was hit and run over by a vehicle. Immediately after the accident, it was realized that he was paralyzed and required a number of invasive surgeries due to the severity of multiple injuries. It was unknown if Kona would even survive the surgeries.

Using the combination of Physical Therapy and Cold Laser Therapy and Infrared light therapy 2-3 times weekly for a total of 6 months, we were able to heal Kona’s inflammation and he made a mobile recovery. Kona now runs.

We are currently working to stabilize and strengthen the muscles to optimize mobility and prevent any further injuries.

Kona’s healing would not be possible without the dedication of her parents who made the necessary lifestyle adjustments such as adding carpet to any areas he could slip in and doing daily exercises to encourage muscle building.
